The Department of Education, Training and Employment offers Step into Teaching Scholarships to support high-achieving science and mathematics graduates who would like to make a difference in the lives of young Queenslanders by becoming a state high school teacher.
Through this program, suitably-qualified individuals will be supported to obtain teaching qualifications and begin their careers in the rewarding and well-regarded teaching profession.
About the program
The Step into Teaching Scholarships are offered annually to individuals who hold relevant tertiary qualifications and who are prepared to undertake a one-year Graduate Diploma in Education, (or an equivalent approved initial teacher education program), in at least one of the following high-demand, secondary curriculum areas:
After completion of the one-year, full-time study program, scholarship recipients who meet the teacher suitability requirements will secure permanent employment with the department. As beginning teachers, scholarship recipients will initially be appointed to a supportive rural or remote location, where they will have the opportunity to consolidate their skills and build a valuable experience base.
